I was fortunate enough to attend WordCamp US in beautiful Philadelphia PA. I set a goal in 2015 to attend the next one – and was proud I followed through – and it was definitely worth it. Seeing so many other folks passionate about the web, and full of knowledge, tips, and and tricks motivates me to recommit to WordPress and gives me reassurance that it will only get better. Notes and Takeaways from Wordcamp US 2016 SEO A good tip to boost SEO ranking is to constantly evaluate some of your older high quality content. Rather than releasing a…

Shopify Mega Menu Screenshot

Here is how I created a Shopify Mega Menu using bootstrap.js and yamm.js for a client on www.halloweencostumes4u.com Yamm is a mega menu that is compatible with Bootstrap and offered me as a developer a great starting point for  a mega menu that could be managed using Shopify HTML and Theme settings. How I built a Shopify Mega Menu To implement the shopify mega menu I installed Yamm, and ensured Bootstrap.JS was included in the stack. I am including a small snippet to show how I did this.. I created a yamm-content instance and used a bootstrap row. Then because…

By Michael Groh | February 3, 2016 | Comments Off on How non administrator can set content not searchable in Ektron

A common challenge for Ektron administrators when attempting to empower content creators and editors is managing what is searchable. A tip on how to use Ektron to modify the content properties, allowingnon-administrator Ektron users to set content to not searchable is below. Option 1: Ektron Folder Admin Role The first option is to set user(s) as Folder Admin Role, allowing them to set the default properties of a folder. Option 2: Ektron Content Properties After Check-In If that isn’t feasible, you can encourage these users to follow a process where they publish the content item and select the Properties Icon…

Shopify Product Customizer Installation Tips

By Michael Groh | May 26, 2015 | Comments Off on Shopify Product Customizer Installation Tips

To sell personalized products on Shopify I recommend using the App “Product Customizer” It’s affordable at $5.99 per month and will let you configure an endless amount of options for your users to select when on a product detail page. Make sure you don’t overwhelm them and keep it simple. Just make sure you take a backup of your site before you hit the install button. I installed this on a recent project and for some reason the /asset files did not update. The backup I took with Shopify’s backup functionality was a life saver. Bottom Line: You’re only as…

Project Management Lessons from Tom Brady

By Michael Groh | April 3, 2015 | Comments Off on Project Management Lessons from Tom Brady

Be prepared and earn the opportunity We all know the story, 6th round draft pick who arrived in New England as the 4th string Quarterback. A greater accomplishment might be Brady’s ability to arrive at Michigan as the 7th Quarterback on the depth chart and 3 years later make his first start and be a 2 year team captain. How did it do it? He earned all of this through hard work, preparation, and his love for practice and especially competition. Though out the bumps in the road (he refers to these as bounces) he stayed calm and focused on…

A Project Manager’s Attempt To Show v. Tell

By Michael Groh | March 18, 2015 | Comments Off on A Project Manager’s Attempt To Show v. Tell

Like any Project Manager, great documentation is critical to success. It can’t just be good. The ability to reference approved documentation if confusion exists (and when doesn’t it), is one of the best tools a Project Manager can have when discrepancies exist and expectations are not met. I say this because… I write a lot – and I’ve tried to shift my thinking toward a more visual approach. Disclaimer: I’m not a designer, but life is all about trying new things. I also know this isn’t super impressive, but is something to build on. Therefore, when I found myself in a situation trying…

3 Words To Improve Sign Up Conversions

By Michael Groh | February 11, 2015 | Comments Off on 3 Words To Improve Sign Up Conversions

A friend of mine gave rave reviews to the IOS app Vivino. I’m protective of my phone and dread the sign up process for applications. Most of the time, I move on. I opened a bottle of the good cheap stuff and before you knew it I was signed up and active. Why did I drop my guard and register? It wasn’t the wine – hadn’t opened it yet. It was 3 words ” Try Us Out” I had heard enough – that signaled to me that Vivino didn’t want my zip code, birthday, address, email, facebook, twitter to use…
